Do you need urgent help?

YOUR EXPERIENCE MATTERS

More understanding. A clearer next step.

You may be exploring autism for yourself, or trying to understand your child’s experiences. Perhaps you have questions but are unsure how to put them into words. This is a place to start. At Glowing Psychology, our autism services bring together assessment, clear explanations and guidance about what comes next. Explore the children’s or adults’ pathway above, or talk to us about the questions that matter to you.
UNDERSTAND

Different experiences, individual needs

Autism is a lifelong difference in how the brain develops and how a person experiences the world. It is not an illness. The word “spectrum” reflects the variety of autistic experiences: people can have different strengths, preferences and support needs.

Communication

Conversations, unspoken expectations and understanding one another may take extra effort.

Sensory experiences

Sound, light, touch or busy surroundings may be experienced differently.

Predictability

Familiar routines can be reassuring, while unexpected changes may be difficult.
These experiences alone do not establish a diagnosis. An assessment considers the wider picture. You can also read the NHS introduction to autism.
SUPPORT

A starting point for children and adults

Exploring your child’s needs

Bring the questions you have about everyday life, communication, learning or relationships. It can help to write down examples of when your child feels comfortable, what they enjoy and what they find difficult. Explore children’s assessments →

Exploring your own experiences

You might want to make sense of patterns you have noticed over time. Consider what you would like an assessment to clarify, including experiences at home, in education, at work or in relationships. Explore adults’ assessments →
YOUR NEXT CHAPTER

From questions to understanding

The exact process depends on the pathway. Our adult assessment information describes these four stages; please visit the relevant service page for details or ask the team what applies to you.
01

Share your story

Pre-assessment questionnaires help the team understand your experiences and consider the next step.
02

Explore together

Assessment appointments bring together developmental history and structured assessment information.
03

Understand the findings

A written report explains the outcome and recommendations, with an opportunity to discuss the findings.
04

Consider what helps

Discuss next steps and relevant support options in the context of your circumstances.

Make space for your questions

Before contacting us, you may find it useful to note:
  • What prompted you to explore an assessment now.
  • What you or your child would like others to understand.
  • Examples from everyday life, including strengths and difficulties.
  • Any communication or sensory preferences you want to discuss.
  • Questions about cost, appointment arrangements and what is included.
You do not need to have everything neatly organised before getting in touch.
A LITTLE MORE CLARITY

Questions you may be asking

Does an assessment always lead to a diagnosis? No. A diagnosis can only be given when the clinical evidence meets the relevant criteria. The purpose is to understand the findings, rather than promise a particular outcome.
What if I mask or use coping strategies?Share this with the team. Notes about masking and experiences at different stages of your life can help inform the assessment.
What if nobody can describe my childhood?Discuss this with us before booking. Our adult pathway asks for information from someone who knows you well; the team can explain the options for your circumstances.
How much does an assessment cost?Visit Our Pricing and contact the team to confirm the applicable fee, what is included and any additional costs before booking.
Will my GP or another organisation accept the report?Requirements can vary. Check directly with the organisation you intend to share it with, and tell us about any specific requirements before arranging an assessment.
Can I ask about appointment arrangements first?Yes. Contact us to discuss the pathway, current availability, location or format, and any adjustments you would like to request.
